Welcome to Holyoke JR/SR High School
á

I am looking forward to a great year with a great deal of positive progress academically for students, strong showings from our athletic teams, and competitive extra curricular activities, as well as outstanding musical and drama performances. I highly encourage students to take advantage of as many opportunities as they can, while still maintaining a focus on academics.

GRADINGáPOLICY and ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITY CENTER GUIDELINES:

Any student earning grades of 70% or higher and turning in assignments on time will experience no change.
All students need to leave school each day successful (completing work which was due)
Academics (on-time, quality work) comes before athletics and extracurricular activities
Every student is too important to be allowed to choose to fail
Summative/Unit Assessments are one-time assessments, students will not have an opportunity to re-take or change their grade
Students who don't put forth effort in making corrections will be given one more chance to do the work, a due date, and then the final grade will be entered, ranging from 0 - 69.
If the work is not turned in by the final due date, students will be placed on the ineligibility list the following week

Junior and Senior level classes will not be assigned to the AOC, assignments are due on the due date set, students may not correct and return up to a 70% grade.
Refusal to Serve in the AOC for the 4th time in a semester will result in a day of Out of School Suspension.

CLASS RANK:

Students must take a minimum of 5 courses (10 credits) in AP, Post-Secondary and Upper division English, Math, Science, and Social Studies courses as specified in the Student Handbook. Students must also meet a 3.5 Unweighted Grade Point Average. If both requirements are met, students will be ranked above other students in the class. Students who meet the courses taken requirement with a 3.25 GPA will be ranked next, all other students will be ranked below students have met the requirements listed above.

Please feel free to call and/or stop by any time if you have questions or concerns. I look forward to working with each of you this year.

Go Dragons!
